COMPETENT PERSONS TRAINING

On the job safety is one of the most important factors in a company’s success, and in the trades, there are lots of opportunities for potential risk to turn into real danger. That’s why it’s important for workers to be properly trained with safety skills for on-the-job risks. Of course, the safety of your laborers is important to us, which is why we offer a competent person safety course.

It’s not up to us who you hire, but we can help shape them into a competent person – in terms of safety, that is. OSHA sets the standards for who is a competent person based on their safety standards, and we implement training to teach workers how to spot risks and handle them accordingly.

WHAT IS A COMPETENT PERSON?

When OSHA refers to a competent person, they aren’t using it the same way one might in an office or similar workplace. On a construction site or in another trade, there are other risks.

OSHA defines a competent person as one who can identify existing and predictable hazards in the workplace and surrounding area that are unsanitary, hazardous, or dangerous, and who has the authority to take corrective measures to eliminate the hazards promptly. It is required to have one of these trained persons on each construction job site.

Smaller companies and teams will typically select a supervisor or foreman so that they can stop work as necessary. Skill is also a factor as they should know the risks involved in the specific duties of the job.

COMPETENT PERSON TRAINING

There are specific types of risks and hazards to be aware of in the different trades. Depending on your industry and need, we can train competent persons to recognize the risks your laborers face and help them determine how to problem solve the risks they may encounter.

Whether working with fall protection, erecting scaffolding, excavating, operating cranes, or many other duties, we can help train the right person to act as your competent person on a job site.

LEARN TO…

  • Spot and anticipate risks
  • Mitigate risks
  • Correct hazards
  • Communicate to workers about risks

When the best person for the role has some knowledge but not quite enough to fully fit the need, we can help bolster their knowledge specific to the components of the job.
